My wife's GrandDad passed away on Sunday afternoon, February 11. I spoke with my mother-in-law on the phone that day, and she said Grandma needed to pass along a message to me: she wanted me to know that GrandDad liked me. I know, Grandma, I know that he liked me. I know because he treated me like I was part of the family since the day I married your granddaughter. Even as if I had been in your family as long as your granddaughter. And nothing makes me more proud to be a part of it. I used to think GrandDad didn't tell any more new stories, that they'd all been told, several times over. Until just recently, when we learned he once had a pony named Prince that had once been in the circus. You just never know. Grandma said she should have known something was going to happen, because things were just too perfect. She was retelling how she and GrandDad would sit in their kitchen and try to recall where all of their special plates had come from. She admitted her inability to remember them all, but that he could for the most part. This was what she called "too perfect." Spending time with her husband of 60+ years, doing nothing besides being together. That is perfect. Thank you, GrandDad, for your gifts to us: strong family and marriage commitment; never-ending optimism; enjoyment of life in general, and yours in particular; personal faith in Jesus Christ and a life of service to Him.
