Now that spring is here, we've been seeing more and more motorcycles on the roads. A few days ago my oldest daughter C reminded me of the long ride we had last summer, where I took her all over the south part of our town following a motorized hang glider contraption in the sky. We rode for over an hour, chasing it east and west until it finally landed in a little field and then took off again. A wonderful summer night spent with my little girl.

Fitting, however, that I was able to share one of my last rides with the little one who has changed my priorities, my behavior, my life so much. It was as if, in those few miles we traveled, the old met the new, and fatherhood, as it has so many times already, showed itself to be a precious gift.

Perhaps I'll get another motorcycle some day. And perhaps I'll take my daughter on the first ride.
