I visit weather.com frequently, mostly because I work in an office, and must prairie dog over the cubicle wall to even see a window. Occasionally, I walk over to that window, and peer outside for a better look. Even rarer are the instances where I go outside for lunch or a break. Most of the time, I see the world around me via weather.com. It's no wonder I am whiter than Casper the friendly ghost.

Weather Channel WatchlistOne of the features I use on the site is called "My Weather Watchlist," where you can select certain cities, and view their weather on your personalized home page. Here's a snapshot of my current "Watchlist." You see those scary Severe Weather alerts in red letters? Nearly every time I view this site, one or more of my favorite cities will have a Severe Weather alert going on.

Take right now for example - Allen, Texas is watching out for a tornado, and the fine folks in Germantown, Tennessee have a flood watch in effect. I've seen wind advisories, thunderstorm warnings, frost, fog, and heat alerts. You name it, and it's on there, with a few extra you've never heard of.

I'm all for notifying people of severe weather so they can take appropriate measures, but most of the time I believe it's a stretch. And now I don't even pay attention to the scary red letters any more. The other day I saw a flood warning that lasted until 10:57 P.M.! Either they've got some really smart mathemagicians, or they're pulling my leg.

weather.com poll about global warmingIn another section, they have a poll each week or so. Check out the results of the latest one about "global warming." Adding up Very & Somewhat Concerned gets you 50.1%, while the rest of the people either don't believe it's true, or aren't very concerned even if it is.

Lesson: don't let people tell you this is settled science. Al Gore may be pushing it hard, but it's not a done deal.
