This past Sarturday was a first for our brood of 6. We entered into the arena of athletic competition. In August Jason registered the three oldest girls in their age appropriate groups for township soccer. We tried swim lessons way back when there were just two and one on the way, and to make a long story short…we haven't done them again. That would be a whole other blog. We thought that especially now that C is 7, a team sport would be a good thing. There was no doubt that E would benefit from being involved in something that didn't involve a crown and evening gown, and M, well we thought we would get a kick (no pun intended) out of watching her chase around a soccer ball. The time seemed right and our intentions were good so we threw down $50 bucks a head and marked September 26th on our calendar as the first game day.

Last week I found out that the theater in the mall shows a free children's movie every Wednesday morning throughout the summer. The past month or so I have had a renewed sense of adventure and want to make the most of our summer fun, so I loaded up everyone this morning and headed for the mall. M has never been to a movie—for very good reasons—and niether has A, so I knew that I may just regret having gone, but it was free so I figured what the heck. E picked her sister's clothes for the big outing. She herself decided her Easter dress was appropriate, C and M decided, however, that what had been suggested was a little over the top, so they each picked out their own skirts and tops. A and I wore much more practical capris and t-shirts.

Meet Goldie, our trial pet. We brought this little goldfish home with us after a graduation party at church. Goldie had been a centerpiece at the party. E held her securely all the way home. C was too nervous to hold her and M was afraid she was going to jump out of the bowl and eat their balloons. A was just very curious about the little orange thing swimming in the seat next to her.
We got her home, named her Goldie, fed her and sent the girls to bed. The next morning we flushed our first pet. Goldie lasted less than 12 hours in the Boyette house. We didn't shed any tears, we didn't have much time to get attached. I guess she made a better centerpiece than a pet. M still reminds us to pray for Goldie every now and then, but other than that it was hello, goodbye and not another word about getting another pet! |

Just before the new year I commented to someone "We have been pretty healthy for a while." As the words were coming out of my mouth I knew I would regret saying them. We have been swapping a nasty cold/cough thing on and off for what seems like months. The smallest among us have been hit the hardest. M has been to the dr. every week for the past three weeks.

My day started sometime after 2 am with the sound of little feet making their way to my side of the bed. I know by the pitter whose they are. M has a little routine of making her way quietly to our room, closing the door behind her, carefully folding down the corner of the blanket, and then climbing in. Too tired to take her back, I drifted off for a while, being sandwiched between my husband and a two-year-old. I did take her back only for her to return an hour or so later. I had no resistance left and let her snuggle in for what could never be described as good sleep.

I love to do many activities with my girls. One of my favorites, although at times a little hairy, is cooking. C loves to cook the most at this time and is always wanting to try out new recipes, recipes that she creates.
